Cameron Highland

Cameron Highland used to be very far if you travelled from Kota Bharu. The old road to CH using East West Highway was KB-Grik-Kampar-CH, and that takes us about 8 hours. But, after the completion of the new highway, you can get to CH through KB-Gua Musang-Simpang Pulai-CH. And that takes us about 4 hours. CH offers many interesting spots for photography. Since this is a popular tourist destination, most of the hotels are kept clean and newly painted and decorated. They offer beautiful natural scenery. On top of that, you can take nice photos of natural landscaping, insects, birds, flowers, fresh fruits and vegetables etc. All you need is some creativity.

Bali, Indonesia

I was in Bali, Indonesia last year (June 2006). I have being to Phuket, Thailand before this. My perception of Bali was the same as Phuket. Nothing much but only chicks, pubs and night life. I was all wrong. Bali has so much more to offer than Phuket. Anyway both tour was make available Free sponsored by a private company as an incentive trip. It was a full package luxury tour as claimed by the tour agent.
Instead of just the James Bond Island in Phuket, Bali offer lots of interesting places to visit especially on sight seeing and photography. The above is taken from a Resort & Spa located facing the Padi Field. Very cooling atmosphere.
Since this trip is fully sponsored, even including Mineral Water.., I don't intent to write anything much about it. Its all prearranged. All I have to do is to get my passport validated, bring along some monies, camera and clothing.
Well, I wish I'll get more sponsor for holiday trip...better work hard for it again next time.
For more pictures of my Bali tour, please visit my other blog at Sri Kebakat.

Bukit Keluang, Besut, Terengganu

If you are travelling from Terengganu to Kota Bharu, it might be worthwhile to divert a little bit to Besut. Besut is about 15 minutes drive from Jerteh. It is the same route if you are going to Pulau Perhentian or Perhentian Island.
Bukit Keluang is actually a seaside with nice scenery. 30 minutes at Bukit Keluang is already enough, just for photography. It's is actually a seaside caves with lots of bats. Just a stone throw and you can see Bukit Keluang Resort, a three star hotel.
Depending on the water tide, if you are lucky you can get to walk inside one of the caves.
However, you can also walk to the other side of the cave through the bridge.
I have not being there for many many years. So, while passing by attending a relatives wedding invitation, we decided to stop by and relax for a short while.

My Kelantan, a place call Home

Well, my place is also call "CikSiti Wan Kembang". It's named after a princess during the olden times. We are about 500 kilometres away from Luala Lumpur city and my "home" is about 15km away from the Malaysia-Thailand border, called Pengakalan Kubur which means Grave Station. I have no idea at all why it is called as such. Ok, Kelantan is rated as the 2nd highest powerty states in the country after Sabah, and one of the most undeveloped state as well. We are the only state that is govern by the opposition party. No wonder we are so undeveloped !
We don't have 4 lane highway, no cineplex, no discos, no gambling permit and only 1 five star hotel. Some city folks says this place is so dead and only good for retirement. Some says, we people can save a lot of money compared to them. I think they are a bit nuts, know nothing. All right, we may be earning the same amount of money for those who are working with the government or with the corporate groups. But we get no promotion. Only working at the barnch level. And also in actual fact, we are getting goods and materials from the outside, meaning transportation and etc is higher due to logistic matters. Our price for these daily goods are much higher. Not forgetting, we are also paying the same tax rate with less benefits. What those city folks gets are good infra, good facilities, good highway, no bumpy roads and get to complaint what they don't get for what they pay for. Well, we also need to eat and a home. Our children don't get to go to big schools and as much exposure as theirs. We don't have many and quality higher education and colleges over here. So once our kids grown, we need to sent them to the cities for further education as well. I think it is the quality of life which is more important. My motto is "be happy and stay healthy".

Living in an suburbs means you get to taste freshier sea food and vegetables, because we are getting directly (or almost) from the fishermen and farmers, instead of going through many channels of distribution such as middle man and etc. Perhaps, we gain some we loose some.
Located at the east-coast of Peninsular Malaysia, we have some nice beaches too. Nice in the sense that it is still unspoilt by development and tourist. They are natural but not many resorts and hotels available.
If you are those people who enjoy going to Cineplex, discos and expensive and branded boutique shopping, Kelantan is definitely not a place for you. Kelantan is all green and plantations. Well, actually not that bad, we also have a shopping mall, some supermarkets and high buildings but not as big as other places, such as Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Perak or Johore Baharu.
So, if you are those who want to find some adventure, have a bit of exercising and trekking, perhaps Kelantan will be just nice for a budget traveller. To me, I think the most importantly is to be happy but not just contented with just what we have. Just work harder for the money and enjoy life at the same time.
Well, if you want to experience some city life.. be like us. Save some money and go for holiday as a break and get some exposure. If you can't save enough for a luxury tour, be like us too.. go back packed !
